Senior Functional Consultant — Warehouse

Remote - United StatesFull-timeOperationsClient travel: 20–30%
ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Functional Consultant — Warehouse leads functional delivery on CargoWise Warehouse implementations, working under the OPM and PM. We are looking for someone who understands warehousing before they understand software — a consultant who can advise clients on process improvement and best practice, and then configure CargoWise to deliver the solution.

You will own solution design, configuration, testing, client engagement, and documentation on your workstreams across Transit, Product, Bonded, and 3PL/fulfilment environments — with a clear path toward the OPM level.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Delivery & Solution Design

  • Lead CargoWise Warehouse implementation workstreams from discovery through go-live across Transit, Product, Bonded, and 3PL/fulfilment environments.
  • Facilitate client workshops — current vs. future state analysis, fit-gap assessment, and business process re-engineering sessions.
  • Design warehouse solutions covering receiving, putaway, replenishment, wave/zone/batch picking, packing, dispatch, cross-dock, kitting, VAS, cycle counts, stocktakes, and customer billing.
  • Configure warehouse structures, locations, bins, inventory controls, RF scanning, mobile operations, workflows, tasks, user roles, and KPI reporting.
  • Ensure solutions align with forwarding, customs, EDI/API, barcode (GS1), handheld, automation, and third-party system requirements.

Operations Advisory

  • Draw on warehouse operations knowledge to challenge existing client processes and recommend improvements rather than simply replicating current state.
  • Advise clients across warehouse verticals including freight forwarding, 3PL, retail, eCommerce, FMCG, and healthcare environments.
  • Provide guidance on inbound optimisation, slotting, ABC analysis, labour planning, dock scheduling, returns processing, and inventory accuracy.
  • Demonstrate awareness of warehouse automation — ASRS, AMRs, voice picking, RFID, conveyors, and IoT systems — and how they integrate with CargoWise.

Testing & UAT

  • Develop and execute test scripts for SIT and UAT phases, resolving functional issues as they arise.
  • Lead data preparation, migration, defect resolution, and cutover planning on assigned workstreams.

Documentation & Handoff

  • Produce complete solution documentation including functional specifications, process maps, configuration workbooks, test scripts, and training materials.
  • Lead knowledge transfer activities ensuring the receiving team fully understands the delivered solution.

Client & Pre-Sales

  • Serve as the primary functional contact for clients throughout delivery phases.
  • Design and deliver end-user training for warehouse operations staff.
  • Support pre-sales discovery, demonstrations, scope development, and effort estimation for warehouse engagements.
  • Present confidently to client stakeholders and identify follow-on consulting opportunities within active accounts.

Team

  • Mentor and coach FCs, transferring warehouse knowledge and elevating team delivery capability.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of SFL's warehouse playbooks and delivery standards.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • 5–10 years in warehouse consulting, operations, or logistics technology — ideally with operational warehouse experience before moving into consulting.
  • 2–4 years hands-on CargoWise Warehouse experience across Transit and/or Product Warehouse implementations.
  • Demonstrated ability to run requirements workshops, produce functional specifications, design solutions, and deliver client training.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse operations across receiving, storage, fulfilment, and dispatch workflows in a commercial environment.

CargoWise Warehouse Technical

  • Transit and/or Product Warehouse — receiving, putaway, RF scanning, picking, packing, dispatch, inventory control, cycle counts, and mobile operations.
  • Warehouse structures, location and bin management, workflow configuration, and barcode standards (GS1).
  • Integration awareness — EDI/API, automation interfaces, carrier systems, and third-party connectivity.
  • Data migration, test script development, UAT support, and cutover planning.

Industry & Operations Knowledge

  • Operational experience across freight forwarding, 3PL, retail, eCommerce, or FMCG warehouse environments.
  • Understanding of slotting, ABC analysis, labour planning, replenishment, and inventory accuracy principles.
  • Awareness of warehouse automation systems and how WMS integrates with them.

Soft Skills

  • Able to challenge client thinking constructively and recommend process improvements with confidence.
  • Strong workshop facilitator and client communicator — comfortable presenting to operational and senior stakeholders.
  • Independent and accountable — owns delivery quality on assigned workstreams.
  • Mentoring instinct — invested in developing FCs on the team.
  • Growth mindset — actively building toward the OPM level.

Preferred

  • CargoWise CCS or CCP certification.
  • Experience with a tier-one WMS platform (Manhattan, Blue Yonder, SAP EWM, Microlistics, Infor, Oracle, or similar).
  • Background in both freight forwarder and 3PL/4PL warehouse environments.
  • Power BI, SQL, or warehouse KPI reporting experience.
  • Lean warehousing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen exposure.

What You'll Do

The work, in practice.

  • Lead end-to-end CargoWise implementations— scoping, configuration, data migration, testing, cutover, and hypercare for clients across multiple trade regions.
  • Run discovery with operations teamsto map current forwarding, customs, warehouse, and finance workflows, then design the target-state configuration that fixes what isn't working.
  • Own cross-module design decisionsspanning forwarding, customs, warehouse, and finance in a single connected environment.
  • Handle multi-country rolloutswhere each jurisdiction brings its own regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Work with our integration engineersto connect CargoWise cleanly to the wider enterprise stack — ERP, finance systems, carrier and customs gateways.
  • Advise clients directly at senior level, translating operational pain into a platform decision they can act on.
  • Mentor consultants and analystson the team, and contribute to our internal delivery playbooks and certification pathways.
